Cette espèce plus robuste dans ses formes que la plupart des autres oiseaux-mouches, a une calotte d'un pourpre doré passant au violet, qui forme sur l'occiput une sorte de huppe" (Lesson & Garnot 1830); "SEPHANOIDES, Less.
