ENTOMODESTES
(Turdidae; Ϯ White-eared Solitaire E. leucotis) Gr. εντομα entoma  insects  < εντομη entomē  notch; εδεστης edestēs  eater  < εδω edō  to eat; "Myadestinæ  ...  The earlier placing of these birds within the Ampelidæ is only due to their "resemblance in general appearance," and the differences have already been pointed out so exhaustively by Professor Baird, that it is unnecessary to repeat them here. The group will not, however, be naturally limited or clearly defined without removing the species Myadestes leucotis (Tschudi), which is widely different, from the Myadestinæ, being a true member of the Ptilogonatidæ. As its characters do not agree with those of any other genus, it will be necessary to make it the type of a new genus.Ϯ   ...   ϮENTOMODESTES, n. g.  (*Eντομα = insects, εδεστης = an eater).  Type—Entomodestes leucotis (Tschudi)—  Head without crest.  Outer primaries broad, not attenuated nor pointed at end; 1st about half the 2nd.  Tail graduated, the feathers acute and acuminate at tips, the outer tapering from about its middle.  Bill somewhat lengthened, rather weak, broad at base; nostrils large, rounded, much exposed; frontal feathers not reaching by far to the posterior margin.  Tarsus scutellate anteriorly, as long as middle toe and claw." (Stejneger 1883); "Entomodestes Stejneger, Proc. U. S. Nat. Mus., 5, "1882," p. 456, Feb., 1883—type, by monotypy, Ptilogonys leucotis Tschudi." (Hellmayr, 1934, Cat. Birds Americas, Pt.
