POOSPIZOPSIS
(Thraupidae; Ϯ Chestnut-breasted Mountainfinch P. caesar) Genus Poospiza Cabanis, 1847, warblingfinch; Gr. οψις opsis appearance; "COMPSOSPIZA GARLEPPI ... When I first received this bird I was much perplexed regarding its systematic position. I am now of opinion that it belongs to a new genus which ought to be placed next to Poospiza. Its nearest ally is apparently Poospiza cæsar, Scl. & Salv., from Southern Peru, which in my opinion ought also to be separated generically from Poospiza*. ... * POOSPIZOPSIS, mihi, gen. nov., generi Poospizæ affinis, sed differt rostro pedibusque multo fortioribus et alis caudaque longioribus. Typ. Poospiza cæsar, Scl. & Salv." (von Berlepsch 1893).
