Zu dieser neuen Sippe gehört als Gattung Le Vaillants Huhule, Daudins und Lathams Strix Huhula aus Südamerica. ... Character universalis Syrnii; rostrum Strigis; auriculae nullae, area plumarum mediocris, totum oculum cingens, circularis; remex 4 et 5 omnium longissimae, quarta quam quinta vix longior; digiti nudi; tarsus dense plumosus; aures mediocres; cauda longula, lata, aequalis.— Color praedominans niger. Species: 1. Ciccaba Huhula. Fliegt auch bei Tage umher. Diese Sippe ist zwischen die Schleiereulen (die einen sehr großen, herzförmigen Gesichtsschleier und große Ohren haben) und Kauze (Syrnium) zu fetzen."
