DEFINITIONS
PARADIGALLA
(Paradisaeidae; Ϯ Long-tailed Paradigalla P. carunculata) Portmanteau of genera Paradisaea Linnaeus, 1758, bird-of-paradise, and Gallus Brisson, 1760, fowl; "Adult Male ... large erectile wattles in front of eye at base of upper mandible yellowish-green, wattles at basal sides of lower mandible violet-blue becoming orange-yellow and then orange-red basally" (Cooper & Forshaw 1977); "Oiseau de Paradis à pendeloques. (Lesson 1835); "Paradigalla Lesson, 1835, Hist. Nat. Ois. Parad., p. 242. Type, by monotypy, P. carunculata Lesson." (Mayr in Peters 1962, XV, 189). Cracraft 1992, listed Paradigalla as having three phylogenetic species.
