HYPOCNEMIS
(Thamnophilidae; Ϯ Guianan Antwarbler H. cantator) Gr. ὑπο hupo somewhat; κνημις knēmis, κνημιδος knēmidos leggings, greaves (i.e. booted); "Gen. Hypocnemis n. gen. (ὑποκνημις, subcaligatus). Erinnert durch Schnabelform, noch mehr und besonders aber durch bunteres, vielgeflecktes Gefieder an die kleineren Arten von Thamnophilus. Schnabel kürzer als der Kopf, gewölbt, ohnfirstig, weder plattgedrückt noch zusammengedrückt; Schwanz kürzer als die Flügel, ziemlich gerade oder etwas abgerundet; die äussere Zehe stärker verwachsen als bei den vorhergehenden Gattungen [Pyriglena, Myrmonax]. 1.
