PTILOPSIS
(Strigidae; Ϯ Northern White-faced Owl P. leucotis) Gr. πτιλον ptilon  feather; οψις opsis  face; "Subgenus. Ptilopsis, Kp.,  Ephialtes, Bp.  Schnabel vorgestreckt, mit sehr langen Zügelfedern, die ihn ganz verstecken. Erste Schwinge sehr lang, an der Spitze ausgeschitten und unbedeutend länger als die 2te und 3te. Fusswurzel dicht, Zehen zuweilen schwach befiedert.   6. Scops leucotis, Sw.  7. Scops megalotis, G. Gray." (Kaup 1851).
