PHOENICOPARRUS
(Phoenicopteridae; Ϯ Andean Flamingo P. andinus) Gr. φοινιξ phoinix, φοινικος phoinikos crimson, red; L. parrus or parra unknown bird of omen (variously identified, e.g. nightjar, owl, woodpecker, lapwing, wheatear); "Si le Phœnicoptère a trois doigts (Ph. andinus, Philippi, ex Am. m. Chili, in Caban. Journ.) existe véritablement, et qu'il n'y ait pas de méprise quant à ses pieds tridactyles, ce troisième Phœnicoptère américain, si différent de ruber, L. (americanus, Orbigny ex Seba) et de ignipalliatus, Geoff. (chilensis? Molina), devra incontestablement former un second genre dans cette singulière famille: nous proposons pour lui le nom de Phœnicoparrus." (Bonaparte 1856).
