(Trochilidae; Ecuadorean Piedtail P. hemileucurus) Botanical genus Phlox Linnaeus, 1753, phlox  < Gr. φλοξ phlox, φλογος phlogos  flash of lightning (i.e. red); φιλος philos  lover; "PHLOGOPHILUS HEMILEUCURUS, Gould.   ...   Remark.—I have no doubt that the bird from which the above description was taken is immature; when the adult is discovered, it will probably be found to be a very remarkable species; in fact, the specimen described exhibits characters differing from those of every other known Humming-bird, among which its singularly-marked, rounded tail is especially noticeable."
