(Furnariidae; Ϯ Rufous-fronted Thornbird P. rufifrons) Gr. φακελλος phakellos bundle of twigs; δομος domos house; the large stick-nests of the familiar thornbirds are conspicuous features of arid and semi-arid countryside in tropical America; "*LXXXVIII. Phacellodomus RCHB. Syst. d. Vögel t. suppl. ... *379. Ph. rufifrons (Sylvia — ILLIG) RCHB. t. DXXI. 3611—12. .... Zuerst beschreibt SWAINSON das von ihm beobachtete merkwürdige Nest, welches so groß ist, daß es zur Staffage der Landschaft um Bahia beiträgt. Es hängt an niedern Sträuchern, außerlich aus trockenen Stäben ohne alle Verwebung zusammengesetzt, 3—4 Fuß lang, von fern wie ein dickes Gewirre von Bohnenstroh, wie zufällig gestaltet aussehend." (Reichenbach 1853); "Phacellodomus Reichenow [sic], Handb. spec. Orn., cont. x, 1853, Scansoriae A. Sittinae, p. 146, 169. Type, by monotypy, Anabates rufifrons Wied." (Peters 1951, VII, 111).
