(Trochilidae; Ϯ Red-tailed Comet S. sparganurus) Sappho (fl. 600BC) lyric poetess of Lesbos who gathered around her a group of friends, all of her own sex, in a cult organisation devoted to Aphrodite. Reichenbach's 1849, plate XL, labelled Trochilinae. Mellisuginae. Phaetorninae, highlights the long forked tail of these hummingbirds. "* Sappho sparganura (Tr. — us SHAW 1811.)
