mango
This name could have been corrupted from a now lost local Jamaican name, 'Man God-bird,' for a large hummingbird (Björn Bergenholtz in litt.). However, Olson & Levy 2013, have shown that Albin's 1731, "Mango Bird" was the Indian Golden Oriole Oriolus kundoo, but the name was given, by confusion, to the Jamaican Mango; "60. TROCHILUS. ... Mango. 16. T. rectricibus subæqualibus ferrugineis, corpore testaceo, abdomine atro. Mellivora Mango. Alb. av. 3. p. 45. t. 49. f. 2. Habitat in Jamaica." (Linnaeus 1758) (Anthracothorax) (see kundoo).
