DEFINITIONS
COMPSOTHRAUPIS
(Thraupidae; † Scarlet-throated Tanager C. loricata) Gr. κομψος kompsos elegant, pretty; τραυπις thraupis unknown small bird, perhaps some sort of finch. In ornithology thraupis signifies tanager; "Lamprotes Swainson, 1837, a genus of Tangaridæ, is invalidated by Lamprotes "R. L.," 1817, proposed in Lepidoptera. As Swainson's genus appears to have no available synonym, I suggest for it Compsothraupis § (type, Tanagra loricata Lichtenstein) ... § κομψος, elegant: θραυπις, a small bird." (Richmond 1915); "Compsothraupis Richmond, 1915, Proc. Biol. Soc. Washington, 28, p. 180. New name for Lamprotes Swainson, 1837, preoccupied by Lamprotes Reichenbach, 1817 (Lepidoptera)." (JAJ 2021).
