(Jacanidae; Ϯ Bronze-winged Jaçana M. indicus) Gr. μετωπιδιος metōpidios  on the forehead  < μετωπον metōpon  forehead, brow  < μετα meta  between; ωψ ōps, ωπος ōpos  eye; "Genus Metopidius Wagl., Stirnschild. (Genus novum.)  Grundformen dieser Sippe sind: Lathams Parra africana und Cuviers Parra aenea, beyde aus Africa. Der Flügeldorn sehit, oder es ist an dessen Stelle nur ein stumpfer Höcker vorhanden. Ein aufliegendes Stirnschild wie bey Fulica u.s.w." (Wagler 1832); "Metopidius Wagler, Isis von Oken, 1832, col. 279. Type, by subsequent designation, Parra aenea Cuvier = Parra indica Latham.
