DEFINITIONS

FALCUNCULUS
(Falcunculidae; Ϯ Eastern Shriketit F. frontatus) Dim. < Late L. falco, falconis  falcon  < L. flectere  to curve; "120.  FALCONELLE, Falcunculus.  Lanius, Lath.   Bec court, robuste, très-comprimé, un peu fléchi en arc; mandibule supérieure dentée et crochue vers le bout; l'inférieure aiguë et retroussée à la pointe. — Première remige la plus longue.   Esp. Lanius frontatus, Lath." (Vieillot 1816); "Falcunculus Vieillot, 1816, Analyse, p. 40. Type, by monotypy, Lanius frontatus Latham." (Mayr in Peters, 1967, XII, p. 4).  Formerly the Ploughbill Eulacestoma was included in this family, itself normally merged with the Pachycephalidae.
