Formicivora Ϯ Paraná Antwren F. acutirostris) Gr. myth. στυμφαλις stumphalis Stymphalian birds that dwelt in the marshes around Lake Stymphalis, in Arcadia, ravaging the crops and attacking people, whence Hercules banished them to the island of Ares in the Black Sea; ορνις ornis, ορνιθος ornithos bird; the Paraná Antwren inhabits thickly vegetated coastal marshes of Paraná, southern Brazil; "Stymphalornis gen. nov. ESPÉCIE-TIPO: Stymphalornis acutirostris sp. nov. ... ETIMOLOGIA: Do grego "Stimphalon" (Στυμφηλον) e "ornis" (ορνις), uma alusão às estinfálides, aves monstruosas consagradas à Ares que habitavam o pântano de Estinfalo na Arcádia. Possuindo bico, garras e penas de bronze que atiravam como setas, as estinfálides abrigavam-se na vegetação fechada, de onde saíam para assolar as redondezas à caça de homens e animais" (Bornschein et al. 1995).
