(Tyrannidae; Ϯ Eared Pygmy Tyrant M. auricularis) Gr. μυια muia, μυιας muias fly; ορνις ornis, ορνιθος ornithos bird; "No. 79: Euscarthmus minutus W. Bertoni (sp. n.) (Myiornis?) — guar.: jénero Tatshuri." (Bertoni 1901); "Myiornis Bertoni, 1901, Aves Nuevas Paraguay, p. 129. Type, by monotypy, Euscarthmus minutus Bertoni = Platyrhynchos auricularis Vieillot."
