(Picidae; Ϯ African Piculet V. africana) Jean Baptiste Édouard Verreaux (1810-1868) and Jules Pierre Verreaux (1807-1873) French natural history dealers; "Neu ist ferner und sehr interessant: Sasia africana J. Verr. Rev. et Mag. p. 217. Gabon. (Typus meines Genus Verreauxia)" (Hartlaub 1856).
