DEFINITIONS

APHANOTRICCUS
(Tyrannidae; Ϯ Tawny-chested Flycatcher A. capitalis) Gr. αφανης aphanēs  unseen, obscure  < negative prefix α- a- ; φαινω phainō  to show; τρικκος trikkos  unidentified small bird. In ornithology triccus signifies tyrant flycatcher; "Aphanotriccus gen. nov.  (Tryannidæ [sic].)   Similar to Myiobius Gray but outermost primaries longer (the tenth equal to first instead of much shorter than secondaries, the ninth not shorter than fifth), rictal bristles weaker (not reaching to tip of bill), tail much longer than distance from bend of wing to end of distal secondaries, and without yellow on crown nor rump.   Type, Myiobius capitalis Salvin = Aphanotriccus capitalis.  (Aφανης, unseen, obscure; τρικκος, a small bird)" (Ridgway 1905); "Aphanotriccus Ridgway, 1905, Proc.
