(Estrildidae; Ϯ Australian Zebra Finch T. castanotis) Gr. ταινια tainia  band; -πυγιος -pugios  -rumped  < πυγη pugē  rump; "rump white; upper tail-coverts jet black, each feather having three large and conspicuous oval spots of white" (Gould 1865); "XIX. Taeniopygia RCHB. Bänderschwanzfink.  Schnabel dick, kaum länger, als hoch und breit, Firste rechtwinkelig in die Stirn tretend, spitzewärts verschmälert, Schneiden gerade.  Schwingen 1=4 gleichlang und längste.  Schwanzfedern fast gleichlang, nur die mittleren ein wenig länger, Oberschwanzdecken gebändert und den Schwanz fast bedeckend.   ...   67-69.
