(Tyrannidae; Ϯ Spectacled Tyrant H. perspicillatus) Gr. ὑμην humēn, ὑμενος humenos skin, membrane; ωψ ōps, ωπος ōpos eye; "Clignot, ou Traquet a lunette ... Un cercle d'une peau jaunâtre plissée tout autour des yeux de cet oiseau, et qui semble les garnir de lunettes" (Richard 1828); "Diverses sortes de passereaux viennent jusque près des villages: c'est ainsi que nous y observâmes une petite mésange, plusieurs moucherolles, et entre autres le clignot du Paraguay (hymenops nyctitarius, Commers., Dessins inédits.)" (Lesson 1828); "Hymenops Lesson, 1828, Voy. Coquille, Zool., 1, p. 239. Type, by monotypy, hymenops (sic) nyctitarius Lesson = Motacilla perspicillata Gmelin."
