DEFINITIONS

CONOPOPHILA
(Meliphagidae; Rufous-banded Honeyeater C. albogularis) Gr. κωνωψ kōnōps, κωνωπος kōnōpos  gnat; φιλος philos  lover; "The stomach was very small, but tolerably muscular, and its food consisted of insects generally" (Gilbert in Gould 1865); "LV. Conopophila RCHB. Nat. System der Vögel sppl. — An dieser Stelle die Wiederholung von Stomiopera aus der Gruppe der Gattung Ptilotis, zugleich eine Vorbildung von Dicaeum. — GOULD vermuthete bereits, daß diese beiden Arten nicht zu Entomophila gehörten, welche deshalb in ihrer Gattung fast allein steht.    *273.
