(Cotingidae; Ϯ Pompadour Cotinga X. punicea) Gr. ξιφος xiphos  sword; λαινα laina  mantle, cloak (cf. ωλενε ōlene  lower arm); "Noch auffallender, theils wegen ihrer Federbildung, theils wegen großer Verschiedenheit nach Alter oder Jahreszeit, bleiben die beiden Pompadourvögel. (Xipholēna.) Bei ihnen erscheint, wenn nicht überhaupt im ausgefärbten Zustande, doch jedenfalls im hochzeitlichen Kleide, das gesammte kleine Gefieder merkwürdig hart, steif, glänzend und dabei zerschliffen, also unzusammenhängend" (Gloger 1841); "Xipholena Gloger, 1842, Gemeinnütz.
