(Cuculidae; Ϯ Dusky Long-tailed Cuckoo C. mechowi) Gr. κερκος kerkos tail; κοκκυξ kokkux, κοκκυγος kokkugos cuckoo; "Herr Cabanis charakterisirt ein neues Genus Cercococcyx n. gen. aus Angola. In Indien und auf den Molukken kommt eine Gattung von Kuckuken, Cacomantis, vor, welche sich durch kurze Flügel und einen langen Schwanz auszeichnet. In der Mechow'schen Sammlung findet sich nur ein junges, noch nicht ganz ausgefärbtes Weibchen, welches durch den auffallend langen Schwanz und Färbungsähnlichkeit der Oberseite zunächst an das Genus Cacomantis, aber durch die Querzeichnung der Unterseite noch an Cuculus erinnert. Es bildet somit diese eigenthümliche afrikanische Form den Typus einer Zwischengruppe, welche zwischen Cacomantis und Cuculus steht und von beiden durch den viel längeren Schwanz abweicht.
