THRIPOPHAGA
(Furnariidae; Ϯ Striated Soft-tail T. macroura) Gr. θριποφαγος thripophagos  eating woodworms  < θριψ thrips, θριπος thripos  woodworm; -φαγος -phagos  -eating  < φαγειν phagein  to eat; "Die Gattung Thripophaga (θριψ, Holzwurm; φαγειν, fressen) unterscheidet sich von Anabates und den verwandten Gattungen [Xenops, Schizura, Sphenopyga] schon genügend durch die nicht offenen, sondern durch eine Haut fast ganz bedeckten Nasenlöcher (nares fornicatae).   Als Arten gehören hierher:  1. Th. striolata. Sphenura striolata Licht. Doubl. No. 465. Anabates striatus Spix. Anabates macrourus Pr. Max. Xenops ruficollaris Less.   2. Th. aurita. Anabates auritus Licht. Tschudi Consp.
