‡ (Accipitridae; Ϯ Bermuda Hawk B. avivorus) Bermuda; genus Buteo de Lacépède, 1799, buzzard; the Bermuda Hawk is known only from subfossil remains, but may have survived until the early 17th century; "Genus Bermuteo, new genus    Type species.—Bermuteo avivorus, new species.   ...   Etymology.—An amalgamation of Bermuda with the genus Buteo, from the Latin word buteo, a hawk, used for the European Buzzard Buteo buteo, and like that genus treated here as masculine in gender."
