PHYLLOSCOPUS
(Phylloscopidae; Ϯ Willow Warbler P. trochilus) Gr. φυλλον phullon  leaf; σκοπος skopos  seeker  < σκοπεω skopeō  to examine; "VI. Fam. Sylviadae Vigors. ...  Phylloscopus: Sylv. trochilus Lath. u.v.a.   ...   1 Von der Lebensweise dieser Vögel weiß man so viel, daß sie blühende Gewächse aufsuchen und vom Blumensaste, gewiß auch von Insecten leben. Von den Trochiliden unterscheiden sie sich hauptsächlich durch die Bildung des Schwanzes, der überhaupt schwächer, und die größere Länge der Schwungfedern, wovon man auf einen ganz verschiedenen Flug schließen darf." (Boie 1826); "Phylloscopus Boie, 1826, Isis von Oken, col. 972. Type, by monotypy, Motacilla trochilus Linnaeus." (Watson in Peters 1986, XI, 221).

SUBSPECIES

Kloss's Leaf Warbler (disturbans)
SCI Name: Phylloscopus ogilviegranti disturbans
disturbans
L. disturbans, disturbantis  frustrating, disturbing  < disturbare  to frustrate, to drive apart.
• "Dicrurus leucophaeus Vieill.  ...  To define the different forms is a matter of no little difficulty, for the keys hitherto given are far from satisfactory and the characters referred to thereon are not constant.  Moreover the greater the amount of material available for examination the less do the hitherto alleged differences hold good.  ...  (4) Dicrurus leucophaeus disturbans, subsp. nov.  ...  Where disturbans meets true leucophaeus in the south it is impossible to say" (Baker 1918) (syn. Dicrurus leucophaeus nigrescens).
• "49.  Androphilus disturbans sp. nov.  ...  The specimen is not in very good condition.  ...  This bird also is quite a surprise in the Moluccas." (Hartert 1900) (subsp. Locustella castanea).
• "Acanthopneuste trochiloides disturbans, subsp. nov.   Near A. t. claudiæ, but much smaller, the underparts a little brighter and greener (in four out of five examples), ocular stripe very dark and upper parts of a somewhat brighter green.  It also resembles A. t. fokiensis Hart., but is less yellow underneath and has a different wing-formula." (La Touche 1922) (subsp. Phylloscopus ogilviegranti).
