(Cracidae; Ϯ Alagoas Curassow M. mitu) Specific name Crax mitu Linnaeus, 1766; the Alagoas Curassow is now extinct in the wild: less than 50 pure-bred birds exist in private aviaries; "CXCVIII.Genre. HOCCAN; Mitu, Marcg.  Pauxi, Pauxi, Temm., Gal.  Bec très-haut, très-comprimé, convexe, à arête vive, en lame saillante et très-convexe, comme dentée; la mandibule inférieure courte, peu haute, obtuse; narines arrondies, percées en avant d'une membrane poilue, couvrant des fosses nasales peu saillantes; joues emplumées; tarses hauts, robustes, à scutelles en plaque; ailes amples, concaves.
