Cette espèce, de l'Amérique méridionale, est tellement voisine du P. campestris (Licht.) ou P. chrysosternus et Chrysoptilus campestris (Swains.), que, dans les collections, elle est étiquetée Campestris femelle. Ces deux espèces habitent les mêmes localités et diffèrent par la couleur du menton et de la gorge, ces parties étant noires chez le Campestris et blanches chez le Campestroides."
