(Meliphagidae; Ϯ Crow Honeyeater G. aubryana) Gr. γυμνος gumnos bare, naked; genus Myza Meyer & Wiglesworth, 1895, myza; "le tour de l'œil en partie dénudé, sauf en arrière, où les plumes de la paupière relient celles de la tête; une autre nudité, partant du dessous de l'œil, s'étend sur le côté de la tête, en dessus et en avant de la région parotique" (J. Verreaux & des Murs 1860); "Herr Reichenow stellt hierauf zwei neue Gattungen auf: Gymnomyza mit dem Typ Leptornis aubryanus Verr. Desm. und Dreptes mit dem Typ Nectarina [sic] thomensis Boc." (Reichenow 1914); "Gymnomyza Reichenow, Journ. f. Orn. 1914, p. 488. Type (by original designation): Leptornis aubryanus V. et des M." (Mathews, 1930, Syst. Av. Austral., II, p. 799).
